Surf the Wood Wide Web

  • Holmbury St Mary Church Hall Felday Glade Dorking, England, RH5 United Kingdom (map)

Do you ever wonder what’s going on in the woods? We do, and we’ve asked some knowledgeable folk to help us learn.

You’re invited to join us in the beautiful Surrey Hills to take an ecological look at the Wood Wide Web.

What’s the Wood Wide Web? It’s all of nature (including you and me) and how it’s connected.

Starting in the ‘classroom’, you’ll hear from a local woodsman about the delicate woodland balance of flora and fauna. And you’ll learn about the network that stretches beneath the ground and the way animals and plants communicate through it.

You’ll also hear how human intervention has disrupted the balance and how new interventions are needed to help rebalance the ecosystem. To explain this, we’ll be joined by local, sustainable hunters who step in for the natural predators that would once have kept that balance.

Full of knowledge, we’ll enjoy a community food share, before heading into the woods to see, hear, smell, touch and feel the nature we’ve been speaking about. It’ll be a chance for you to learn more and a chance to experience the ecosystem in real life.

Throughout the day, you’re invited to join in minutes of mindfulness, connecting your senses to the nature around you. These simple breathing exercises will help you find focus, giving you permission to be fully present in the moment.
