Healing in the Hurtwood

  • Bentley Copse Hound House Road Guildford, England, GU5 9JH United Kingdom (map)

Join us in the stunning Surrey hills for a weekend of nature and nurture.

From the 19th to the 21st of May, we’re gathering at the Bentley Copse Activity Centre, a few miles Southeast of Guildford, for a big slice of Wellderness-style wellbeing.

The weekend ticket includes a foraging walk, a grounding yoga practice, two night’s camping and a deep connection with nature.

Arriving on Friday evening, we’ll enjoy a community food share around the campfire before we set up camp for the weekend.

We’ll let nature wake you on Saturday, while we prepare breakfast – veggie and vegan options will be available, if that’s your preference.

With bellies full, we’ll explore nature’s larder on a gentle walk around the Hurtwood. Guided by our expert foragers, you’ll learn which plants are safe to eat and which to avoid. We’ll offer tips on sustainable, responsible foraging. Plus, we’ll share some delicious recipes to make the most of your new-found bounty.

Later, Kate Wright will lead a yoga session to soothe your spirit, stretch your body and reconnect you with nature. Suitable for all levels, this session will bring you closer to the wilderness around you, while you ground yourself in the present moment.

As the evening rolls around, we’ll commune at the campfire to eat a hearty vegan soup, share stories and build bonds with the other Wellderfolk.

Sunday morning will be slow. We’ll make breakfast while you stretch the sleep from your bones. Then, Matt Dumbleton will run a grounding practice that brings mind, body and breath together in synchronicity.

You’ll need to bring your own tent, sleeping bag and anything else you need for a weekend under the trees. To keep waste to a minimum, we ask that also you bring a reusable mug for hot drinks and utensils for eating.

The site has toilets, showers and a kitchen, and we have access to dry indoor space in case the clouds choose to let loose.

Mandatory DBS check

Important, please note: all campers will need a current DBS check that is valid at the time of the event.

Because Bentley Copse Activity Centre is a site for children and youth activities, and the event includes an overnight stay, it’s a mandatory requirement of booking the venue for all adults staying overnight to complete this check.

You have three options for this:

1. If you have a current DBS, you will need to email a copy to us before the event.

2. You can arrange to have a DBS check done yourself, either through work or through a reputable site. Again, you will need to email a copy to us before the event.

3. The Wellderness can manage the process on your behalf at a cost of £20 per person. You can select this option when booking your tickets.

For options one and two, please send a copy of your current DBS certificate to events@thewellderness.org.uk

For option three, please pay the £20 charge when you book your tickets. We’ll be in touch with the relevant information.

Limited day tickets

For anyone who doesn’t fancy an overnight stay, we have limited day tickets available for the Saturday.

Arriving at 9am, you’ll enjoy the foraging walk, Kate’s yoga session and the evening meal. If you like, you can hang around the campfire until the sun has set over the Surrey Hills and the campers take themselves off to their tents.

This adult only event offers you the time and space to be present with yourself, with the Wellderness community and with nature. We hope to see you there.
