Jul the longnight - winter solstice

  • Wild Heart Hill Long Furlong Worthing, England United Kingdom (map)

Join us for an ancient tale of Jul and a wild hunt over a wild hill. Join us for fire and for bedlam.

Mel Maelo of Whiteraven ceremonies leads the 2022 Wellderness Winter Solstice celebration

Among the ancient Norse, the Winter Solstice was more of a staying-in kind of night.

Except for Odin.

Sorry, because of Odin.

You see, they believed he rode through the sky, collecting the souls of the dead. And they didn’t fancy being part of it. Which is fair enough.

It’s fine though. They mostly stayed in and ate loads.

We’ll be outdoors, on the hillside

It’s still called Jul (sounds like Yule) in Scandinavia, and they still follow some of those ancient traditions. A lot of them will be familiar you. Christmas gifted itself quite a few.

This year’s Wellderness Winter Solstice will tell an ancient tale of Jul. Whiteraven will lead the celebration with a nod to Odin’s Wild Hunt. Then Poi Passion bring fire to light Odin’s path and send him on his soul-collecting way. We finish with Mythago, bringing us home with a bit of bedlam to close the show.

Come along to Wild Heart Hill on Friday the 22nd of December and be involved in the celebration. Let your imagination run wild and dress for the occasion (you definitely won’t be the only one!!) or wrap up in your warmest things and let the theatrics unfold in front of you.

Tickets and parking

We’re charging £15 per adult and £7.50 per child. Like always, if money is a barrier, give us a wave.

We have limited parking available, so we ask you to share where you can. It’s possible to get a bus into Findon Valley and walk from there – the Monarch’s Way could be a bit boggy by then, but it’s probably doable. Maybe take a torch!

We’re charging £10 per car for parking. Half the money will go to funding our tree planting programme, the rest is a donation to the cricket club for letting us use their parking.

Tickets are only available from our Eventbrite page, so please don’t buy them anywhere else.
